I'm grateful for this post today; I recently submitted a question about your experience in NoLa and I'm looking forward to the results of the survey. I've been thinking about returning to the South and what city will serve my creative practice best - your post today really resonates.
Ming, thanks so much for responding with this insight. It's all currently so bittersweet because the south is such an incredible gem with culture & creativity that you'll find literally no where else. I believe that's why I feel so convicted to at least try to find solutions as I grow through my journey. I'll definitely be answering your question coming very soon.
As soon as I got the notification I RAN to this post! I resonate with this post soo much being a Black Women creative based in Dubai!
After a crazy lonely roller coaster journey I am questioning my value and if all I’ve went through in the past 3yrs living in Dubai is worth staying and hoping for better. I’ve also decided to take a mental health break to get back to why I decided to embark on my creative journey in the Middle East.
I am soo thankful during this break that I decided to sign up for sub stack and found creators like you! It’s been sooo healing to read others experiences and realize I’m not alone in how I feel even if it’s continents away! Thank you!
Monique, thank you so much for reading and taking the time to respond. I'm so happy to hear that you resonate with this, apart of me was pretty nervous to share my real honest experience. But your response is proof that "we are never alone".
I commend you so much for listening to your body and taking a much needed mental health break. I know it's tough because so much worry comes when taking a pause sometimes. Keep your faith strong and continue to know the power of stillness.
I hope that you follow wherever your heart takes you, whether that is Dubai, or somewhere new. Just to know that you decided to take your art to the middle east is beyond inspiring to me! Blessings to you and I'm happy this platform has now connected us.
Currently in my hometown in South Carolina in between my travels abroad! The title alone enticed me immediately as I’ve spent a significant amount of South for majority of my full time freelance journey and lately I’ve been thinking about it’s implications on my creativity since departing NYC to begin my nomadic journey.
How have you been navigating lately and has the feedback of other creatives been helpful for you?
Thank you for sharing, Taylor! What I know to be true is 1. you are powerful 2. the things you have experienced are not without vain 3. the potential here (for you and your community if you decide to stay in NOLA) is TREMENDOUS! Keep us updated on this journey and how we may support. You are an unparalleled talent and NOLA is blessed to have you there!
